Weight Mis-declaration Fee 1st October 2023

Whale Logistics has been notified of important changes to terminal operations at the port of Melbourne in relation to weight mis-declarations regarding import containers.

What is happening?

Late last year, DP World introduced a calibrated weighing device (Pondus) at the Melbourne Terminal.

Effective the 1st October, 2023, much like VICT, DP World will implement a new process of reweighing ALL import containers (statistically sampled and weighted) on the Pondus stand.

What does this mean?

  • Any unit found to have an absolute weight variance greater than one metric tonne compared to the declared weight will attract the “weight mis-declaration fee for import cargo”
  • Containers that record an absolute weight variance less than one metric tonne, will not incur the fee

It is of high importance that declared vs actual weight at destination are within these allowances to avoid unnecessary additional costs.
